Dr. Rodolfo CONSOLE

presidente

Since July 2012, Dr. Rodolfo Console is the President of CGIAM.

After the Degree in Physics in 1967  at the University of Studies of Roma, from 1968 to 1980 he was researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics (ING).

Later at ING, from 1981 to 1983 he was earlier Chief of Seismic Section and then, from 1990 to 1999, Director of Research.

Meanwhile in 1999, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) has been established gathering and setting off the competences and resources of five institutes already dealing with geophysics and volcanologist issues:  the National Institute of Geophysics, the Vesuvius Observatory, the International Institute of Volcanology, the Institute of Fluid Geochemistry, the Institute for the Research on Seismic Risk.

From 1999 to 2004, Dr. Console was Director of Research at INGV.

Dr. Console dedicated his career to seismological studies, with particular reference to observational seismology, mechanism of seismic sources and statistical seismology.

Moreover in 70’s and 80’s, he was the coordinator of the technological renewal of National Seismic Network and in 80’s he developed the system of automatic analysis of National Centralized Seismic Network of INGV.

From 1976 to date, he has contributed to the activities concerning the Italian participation in the check system of “Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty” within the relationship between INGV and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As Professor, he carried out a Seismology Course at the University “Roma Tre” for ten academic years. For over 10 years he was a lecturer in the PhD Geophysics course at the University of Bologna, where he was Supervisor of several thesis in Seismology and Tutor of Doctoral Thesis in Geophysics.

He held numerous periods of study at seismological research institutions in Japan.

He participated and participates in several National and International Boards, among which:

  • the Board for the reclassification of zones declared seismic by the Ministry of Public Works;
  • the Executive Council of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center;
  • the ING’s Statutory Board in 1982;
  • the Ad Hoc Group of Scientific Experts (GSE) at the Conference on Disarmament, Geneva, from 1976 to 1996;
  • the IASPEI Sub-Commission for Earthquake Prediction;
  • the Working Group WGB at the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) in Vienna, from 1997 to date.

Moreover, concerning his publishing activity, he coordinated sessions of international meetings as convenor or co-convenorha and he was Director of 4 international workshops.

He was editor of two special issues of the “Annals of Geophysics.”

He was also reviewer for more than 200 papers submitted to international journals becoming Associate Editor of the journals “Journal of Geophysical Research” and “Annals of Geophysics” so as to receive the official recognition of “Excellence in Refereeing” in the “Journal of Geophysics “.

He is author of over 80 articles and publications on international journals.
