The kick-off meeting for the European project “RES2FIRE” will take place in Potenza on November 26, starting at 9:30 AM, at the Conference Hall of the Library Hub. The project is led by the Center for Integrated Geomorphology for the Mediterranean Area (CGIAM), together with an international partnership composed of organizations, institutions, and research centers from seven countries in the Adriatic-Ionian area: Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Albania, and Greece. The project is funded by the European cooperation program “Interreg IPA-Adrion 2021-2027” and will last for three years.
RES2FIRE aims to develop shared solutions, procedures, and methodologies to reduce the risk of wildfires by improving adaptation to climate change and enhancing the resilience of ecosystems in coastal and mountainous areas, as well as in natural zones close to urban centers.
This topic is particularly relevant, as wildfires are among the most severe disasters affecting the Mediterranean basin. They alter forest cover, threaten biodiversity, contribute to CO₂ emissions in the atmosphere, and pose a danger to human life.
The RES2FIRE partners will test the innovations developed through joint work in four pilot areas. These territories have been identified in some protected natural areas and in the so-called “Wildland-Urban Interface” zones, which are natural areas or vegetation belts closely connected to urban areas.
The presentation meeting will be attended by partners, European, national, regional, and local institutions, including the Basilicata Regional Command of the Carabinieri Forestali, as well as Civil Protection and Fire Department authorities from Basilicata.

Simultaneous English/Italian translation will be available both in person and via streaming.
