MAKING CITIES RESILIENT

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR)

The Campaign has been launched in May 2010 by the United Nations Agency dedicated to disaster reduction (UNISDR United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction), as a tool for raising awareness and support to local authorities in the implementation process of the Hyogo Framework for Action (signed in Japan in 2005 by 169 countries) for the reduction of disasters risk and increase of communities resilience. The theme of disaster risk reduction is of vital importance for the developed countries and in particular for the cities facing the consequences of natural disasters.

The campaign proposes a guideline for making cities resilient, that can be implemented by mayors and local governments.

In Italy 52 cities joint to the worldwide project, of which around 20 municipalities of Basilicata Region: Avigliano, Banzi, Colobraro, Fardella, Forenza, Genzano di Lucania, Grassano, Guardia Perticara, Maratea, Marsico Nuovo, Montescaglioso, Muro Lucano, Roccanova, Rotondella, Salandra, San Costantino Albanese, Scanzano Jonico, Terranova di Pollino, Tolve, Tursi e Viggiano.
